Mistassini lake, right in the center of Quebec, is the largest natural lake of the province. Our camps are located on an island (Guillaume Couture) that forms a chain of islands dividing Mistassini Lake in half. It is located at 34 miles from Mistissini - a 20 minute seaplane flight. Site is in a bay sheltered from prevailing winds & insects and is conveniently located within proximity to productive areas of the lake.
The lake is 110 miles in length and averages a width of 15 miles with depths averaging from 200 feet to 800 feet. When observing a map of Mistassini Lake, the site is found halfway of the latitude of the lake
(longitude 73`3715 latitude :50`5535).
From Montreal ( 500 miles) : take highway 40 east: freeway 55 north just before Three Rivers, highway 155 north to Chambord, highway 169 north to St-Felicien: highway 167 north from Chibougamau to Mistissini, then a seaplane for a 20 minute ride to the camp.
As an option, there are daily flights connecting from Montreal to Chibougamau. A shuttle or a private plane from the airport will bring the customer to Mistissini at an additional cost.

By floatplane :
The customers will be transferred to the camp from Mistissini on a DeHavilland DC-3 Otter with a maximum load of 2000 lbs (including the 4 passagers and their equipement). The aircraft is well maintained and equipped with floats according to Transport Canada guidelines.
By car : Customers may drive to Mistissini through Chibougamau (90 km of gravel surfaced road from Mistissini to Chibougamau). Customers driving to Mistissini will leave their vehicles at a supervised parking area at our reception office (address : 91, Riverside Street, Mistissini).
Temperature
The ice breaks in general between the third week and the last week of May. Weather in June varies from one extreme to the other. Fishermen can expect warm days as well as cold days. We recommend that fishermen bring warm layers of clothing and boots. In addition, we recommend that people make sure they bring warm rainwear of good quality.
Bugs are relatively absent in early June but begin in mid-June through mid- August, fishermen should not forget their insect repellent, (but people are protected from these insects since we are on an island). July will generally be warmer and bring calm days towards the end of the month. August will begin warm and will end with colder, rainy, and windy days. September will be cold with the exceptional warm periods like the 1999 season. It is important to emphasize that the weather is an element that can drastically change from one day to the other, therefore customers should be encouraged to bring clothing suitable for both warm and cold days.
